Kid Friendly Nags Head

We had the best long weekend in Nag’s Head! Don’t skip the beach in the off season. The kid’s loved playing in the sand, flying kites, and the water was still warm enough to swim (that part is debatable). We explored the area more than we ever have during summers. Some of our favorite spots:

Dowdy Park: Fabulous, inclusive playground. Not a ton of shade so plan accordingly. We went 3 times in 4 days!

Blue Moon Beach Grill: Sit on the patio and explore the fenced-in backyard. There’s fooseball, tetherball, and bean bags and just space to play. It is a popular place, even in October, so come beat the dinner rush! Loved the crab cakes, Caesar salad, and they served an A+ Painkiller

OBX Brewing Station: This spot has a pirate ship playground, corn hole sand pit, and plenty of outdoor seating.

Island Farm: Suprisingly, my kids loved peppering the historic renactment people with questions! The farm itself is beautiful. Plenty to explore, and in October theres a hay maze, pumpkin patch, and some fun vendors. They also got to feed the horses and chickens.

NC Aquarium: A wonderful institution. Note you need a reservation. It’s not too big, lots of interactive exhibits, and my boys loved digging in the fossil pit outside.
